Lot 5205
Licinius I, 308-324. Follis (Bronze, 22 mm, 4.35 g, 6 h), Rome, 312-313. IMP LICINIVS P F AVG Laureate and cuirassed bust of Licinius I to right. Rev. SOLI INVIC-TO COMITI / R Q Sol, nude but for chlamys, standing front, head to left, raising his right hand in salute and holding globe in his left. RIC 323c. Slightly rough and with very minor weakness on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

After taking Rome in October 312, Constantine's coin production was dominated by coins for himself, with much smaller output for his co-emperors, Licinius and Maximinus. The total output was large and hastily produced, and well struck examples for Licinius - such as this coin - are surprisingly rare.
